LGT Capital Partners fields a candidate for the PRI Board

October 25, 2017

Tycho Sneyers, managing partner and Chairman of the ESG Committee at LGT Capital Partners, is a candidate for a seat on the Board of the UN's Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). PRI is the most prominent industry body in the world focusing on responsible investment.

The 1228 asset managers who are signatories to PRI can vote for one out of nine candidates for the asset manager seat. Voting ends on 28 November 2017. The election results will be announced in the week commencing on 4 December 2017.

ESG has been an important part of Tycho Sneyers’ work since 2002, when he initiated the firm's early efforts in integrating responsible investment considerations into its private equity programs at LGT Capital Partners. He has served as chair of LGT Capital Partners’ ESG Committee since its inception, during which time ESG practices have been systematically embedded across the firm's private equity, liquid alternative, bond and equity portfolios.

Serving on the Board of PRI would give him the opportunity to expand his reach in supporting the process of ESG integration in alternative asset classes. Given his long experience, he is well positioned to support PRI's working groups, which are currently focusing on issues like monitoring and reporting on ESG in portfolios.

PRI wants to broaden its expertise
As 150 nations have adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ESG is becoming even more important. It will require the private sector to translate government priorities into concrete actions. Asset managers can play a crucial role in supporting the case for ESG. This is backed by the  PRI, the most prominent industry body in the world focusing on responsible investment, as it is actively seeking board member expertise in incorporating ESG into alternative asset classes.

Tycho Sneyers: "I believe there is a need on the PRI Board for someone who has been "in the trenches" on ESG integration in alternative assets, working through the challenging issues of turning ESG aspirations into operational reality. The work I have done at LGT CP over the years has given me precisely this experience. PRI can play a lead role in making this happen, and I would be honored to help in this process."

The role of PRI for ESG integration
PRI is the world's leading proponent of responsible investment. It works to support its international network of investor signatories, in incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into their investment and ownership decisions. The PRI acts in the long-term interests of its signatories, of the financial markets and economies in which they operate and ultimately of the environment and society as a whole.

The PRI is truly independent. It encourages investors to use responsible investment to enhance returns and better manage risks, but does not operate for its own profit. It engages with global policymakers but is not associated with any government. It is supported by, but not part of, the United Nations.
