About three and a half years after the last tournaments, the time had come last week: the third edition of the IIHF Development Cup took place in Füssen. National ice hockey teams from all over the world compete in the international competition, and Liechtenstein was part of it for the first time ever. The team performed brilliantly and finished the tournament in second place behind Colombia.
Of the total of five games, the Liechtenstein team won four and improved continuously over the course of the four-day Cup. The grand finale was the match against Andorra on Friday, May 7. The team from the Principality took the lead early in the game before Andorra managed to equalize at 4:4. In the final third, the Liechtenstein ice hockey players finally showed excellent team play once again and showed remarkable tenacity. When the final siren sounded, the score was 8:4 for Liechtenstein – an impressive conclusion to a successful tournament. The jubilation and joy of the team and fans was correspondingly great.
